LOS ANGELES, CA – Sept 8, 2009 — Just eight months after announcing its 300th customer, EdgeCast Networks, the superior, cost-effective rich media content delivery network (CDN), today announced that the company's network is now powering more than 1000 customers. Previously unannounced customers in the EdgeCast portfolio include WordPress.com, Examiner.com, Kellogg's, smart USA, and JetBlue.
The company has broadened its customer base geographically - and now serves customers on six continents and wherever the Internet reaches. Further, the company has continued to diversify its markets served - powering live events and web services, delivering rich media, small files, and hosting secure content for companies in industries ranging from media and entertainment to automobile manufacturers to global food brands.
EdgeCast has managed the growth while simultaneously adding critical capacity and new features to its global network. The new features include auto-provisioning features that enable resellers to automatically provision, manage, and measure their CDN customers; real-time reporting that gives customers instant visibility into demand and use; and an exceptionally fast web site acceleration platform that has attracted large social media, news, and commerce sites who depend on fast page loads to keep end users and customers loyal and engaged.
"The 'content delivery trifecta' is speed, reliability, and economy," said Alki David, CEO of FilmOn. "Like most customers experiencing growing traffic loads - and the occasional unexpected spike - we need the best of all three. EdgeCast has undoubtedly delivered that for us, and it's not hard to understand why they are experiencing the growth that they are."
Over the past several months, EdgeCast has sealed several strategic agreements: one with global telecommunications powerhouse Deutsche Telekom for EdgeCast to provide the underlying technology for DT's content delivery offerings; with Web.com giving EdgeCast access to its rich IP portfolio; and another with NaviSite to offer content delivery services to NaviSite customers.
"CDNs are essential enabling support services connecting the digital media value chain. CDN account verticals are diverse, and expanding, driving double-digit revenue growth across the segment in 2009," commented Paul A. Palumbo, research director with AccuStream Research. "Delivery scale, performance, price and quality create an ROI rationale, and have contributed to sustained account acquisition," he added.
"It's tempting to say we're lucky to be in one of the few growing industries in a very difficult economy," said James Segil, president of EdgeCast Networks. "But it is not luck - this team has been working very hard to keep our promise of building the best content delivery network on the planet. Our partners and customers - voting with their dollars and their bits - clearly feel we have been delivering on that promise."
With its substantial customer base, capacity, feature set, and unmatched analytics, the company is quickly emerging as the top challenger to the two content delivery incumbents.
These and other arrangements have strengthened the company's market position while significantly expanding its customer reach to include more than 450 direct customers and more than 550 resold accounts.
