The Feature-Focused Up-and-Comer: EdgeCast Many players could fit in this category…but EdgeCast has established itself as one key player that Yankee Group sees rising above the mist and differentiating itself in the marketplace. The reason for this is the company’s dedicated focus on additional features and services for content owners interested in a premium CDN. The company has among the most robust reporting and analytics suites in the market... Given that a majority of the large content owners have relationships with multiple CDNs, this gives EdgeCast a good opportunity to win a piece of large deals as a secondary provider that is employed primarily for the reporting suite. In addition, strong security features, streaming support and a content management system are all key value-adds that appeal to the CDN-savvy customer. Last, unlike many of the other providers, EdgeCast has a somewhat different approach to delivery, by providing customers who choose a dedicated piece of edge capacity that ensures successful and expedient delivery of key content. Although other players claim this to be similar in many ways to standard caching techniques, the fact that it has provided EdgeCast with a differentiated message (at the very least) in a copycat market is undisputed.
